Vegas Off The Strip (continued)
A few words about the Tahiti. The staff, headed up by Mr. Francis Nakamura, was outstanding in their cooperation and helpfulness. They understood completely my needs and I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Las Vegas. It's about 3 miles off the Strip, it's quiet and the rooms and grounds are beautifully kept up. As you will see in the behind the scenes, it has two pools with sand bottoms, a beautiful BBQ facility, and a Jacuzzi that everyone enjoyed.
The rest of the day was spent with my friends showing me various locations around the local area. We say Red Rock Canyon, Bonnie Springs, and I was able to see the beautifully renovated trucks we would be using another day of the shoot.
On Tuesday, 3 of the models, my wife, Chris, Dan, and Maria went to Red Rock Canyon overlook and fought rain and about a 30 or 40 mph wind but still managed to get some wonderful pictures. We moved from there to a more protected area by Bonnie Springs. It was a flash flood area with some of the best shooting areas I have ever seen. More terrific pictures. The models braved rocks, huge bunnies, and lizards to get the pictures.
Wednesday found us at AJ's Tavern on Decatur and Twain avenues. Karen Palmer, one of the owners had graciously opened her establishment to us and several of her customers who are motorcycle enthusiasts brought their beautiful machines to the tavern for us to use as props for the girls. The atmosphere was electric and everyone had a terrific time. The bikes were beautiful and the camaraderie between the models and the customers was outstanding. We had lots of help moving the bikes around and, as is usual, many interested bystanders to watch what was going on. A huge "Thank You" to everyone involved with this part of the shoot.
On Thursday, we started the day off by going to Hoover Dam. This man made wonder of the world lived up to its reputation as being one of the "Places to see". Karen, Danielle, Chris, my wife, and I toured both the Arizona and Nevada side of the damn. We had a beautiful, sunny day and I took shots of the girls in their dresses. We returned to the hotel and Kerry was ready for her shoot around the pool area of the Tahiti.
Friday morning I was joined by Maria Cedar, her escort Michael, and Kerry for another trip to the wash at Bonnie Springs. I felt I had not explored all the possibilities of this area and with the two models, we found more areas to use and were rewarded by getting more beautiful images.
Friday afternoon we drove back to Chris's house and were joined by the other models for the shoot with the renovated red and yellow trucks. All the models participated and it was a blast to be able to work with the cars. They were beautiful and colorful. Friday evening, Chris kindly donated his house for a BBQ for as many models and significant others who could make it. As you can see from the pictures, many people came and feasted on steak, chicken, salads and dips made by Maria and cooked by her husband Dan.
Saturday morning, Maria and Michael came to the Tahiti for some final shots for the project. We again had great weather and the people at the pool gawked as we shot in many different areas around the sand bottomed pools and the Jacuzzi.
In conclusion, I have to say that the Fashion Photo Tour was an amazing experience. I had a chance to work with some outstanding people. Both cast and crew performed their tasks in an outstanding manner which was much appreciated. I cannot thank my local friends Chris, Dan, and Maria enough for all their help. They were selfless with their time and most helpful with the shoots on location. The models were treated like royalty. To the staff and customers (Bikers) at AJ's, thanks again and best wishes. To the staff and Francis at the Tahiti, I will be back.
